Blackhawks F Marian Hossa resumes skating with team, could play in season opener

Marian Hossa has not played in a single preseason game for the Chicago Blackhawks this year as he recovers from an injury, however, he could be back in time for the Hawks' season opener.

Hossa skated today and will join the Blackhawks practice on Friday, according to ESPN Chicago. Hossa won't play in the Blackhawks' final preseason game but head coach Joel Quenneville expects Hossa to be ready for Tuesday's season opener.

Quenneville commented on Hossa's status after his Thursday skate:

He skated a lot. I thought he skated well in the Notre Dame segment and back here for a few days. He's been off for probbaly a week now, but I think if he's ready, he'll definitely play. If not, we got time in between after the season opener. We're shooting for Tuesday.

Hossa hasn't played in a game or a scrimmage since September 15 but has said that he feels stronger in recent days. He suffered the injury in the Stanley Cup Finals last season and aggravated it last week.

Last season, Hossa appeared in 40 games for the Blackhawks, scoring 17 goals and adding 14 assists. He also scored seven goals in 22 playoff games for the Cup winners.
