The Houston Texans and quarterback Brian Hoyer are expected to part ways, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Hoyer was rendered expendable when the Texans signed Brock Osweiler to a four-year, $72-million contract on March 9. It's possible the Texans could trade Hoyer to a team in need of a capable starter, with the draft rapidly approaching.

The 30-year-old was publicly named the Texans' starter during a segment that aired on HBO's "Hard Knocks." Hoyer's tenure didn't last long, however, as he was relegated to backup duty after a 27-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the team's season opener.

Hoyer was reinserted as the team's starter midseason, and held the role for the rest of the campaign.

In 11 games with the Texans, Hoyer completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 2,606 yards and 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions.
