Report: No urgency in Kaepernick trade talks, 'good chance' he stays with 49ers
Colin Kaepernick may not be going anywhere.
Interested teams currently aren't showing any urgency in trade talks, and there's now a "good chance" the quarterback remains with the San Francisco 49ers heading into 2016, a source told Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
Though there's still plenty of time for negotiations to move forward, potentially after Ryan Fitzpatrick finds a home in free agency, the 49ers' initial asking price may be too steep.
With general manager Trent Baalke recently indicating that Kaepernick would not be released before his base salary becomes fully guaranteed, the team certainly appears open to the idea of bringing him back to run Chip Kelly's offensive system.
"If he's here on April 4, we're going to coach the heck out of him and he's going to work his ass off," Kelly told Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday.
The Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, and New York Jets are among the teams that have been linked to Kaepernick thus far.
