Report: Giants finalize restructured contract with Victor Cruz
The New York Giants finalized a restructured contract with wide receiver Victor Cruz, Art Stapleton of The Record reported Wednesday.
Under the revamped deal, Cruz will be owed $1.3 million in base salary and could earn up to $5.5 million with playing time incentives added in, a source told Stapleton.
Cruz was signed through the 2018 season but was widely expected to be released if he didn't alter the terms of his existing deal. Entering 2016, Cruz was slated to earn $7.9 million for the upcoming campaign.
The veteran wide receiver missed the entire 2015 season due to a calf injury. Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon on Oct. 14, 2014 against the Philadelphia Eagles and hasn't taken the field since.
In 2013, Cruz recorded 73 receptions for 998 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.
With Odell Beckham Jr. drawing the majority of attention from opposing defenses, Cruz could be in line for a triumphant comeback season.
