The Los Angeles Rams worked out a new contract with safety Mark Barron, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Although the team didn't release terms of the deal, Barron reportedly signed a five-year, $45 million contract, per ESPN's Ed Werder.

The 26-year-old - who recorded 116 tackles and a sack in 16 games last season - operates as a hybrid safety/linebacker, as he's best known for his jarring, open-field hitting ability.

Barron was drafted seventh overall in 2012 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,

Due to his versatility in the Rams' scheme, Barron was likely considered indispensable.
