The Los Angeles Rams are leaning toward franchise-tagging cornerback Trumaine Johnson ahead of the March 1 deadline, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Previous reports have indicated the Rams will use their tag on either Johnson or fellow cornerback Janoris Jenkins, as they attempt to rebuild their defense without Chris Long and James Laurinaitis.
If the team does tag Johnson, but are unable to work out a long-term contract with him before next season, they will owe the four-year pro approximately $13.95 million in 2016.
Johnson had 71 tackles and seven interceptions in a breakout 2015 campaign.
