Saints GM wants Brees at QB 'this year, next year and the foreseeable future'

Drew Brees may be entering a contract year in New Orleans, where negotiations on an extension haven't even begun, but Saints general manager Mickey Loomis sounds committed to keeping the star quarterback around long-term.

"We want Drew to be our quarterback this year, next year and the foreseeable future," Loomis told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday. "We'll get that worked out in a way that helps our team and obviously fits in with what he wants to do."

The Saints have one of the most bloated payrolls in the league, and the 37-year-old Brees' $30-million cap hit will take up roughly 20 percent of New Orleans' cap room in 2016.

Brees led the NFL in passing (4,870 yards) in 2015 for the sixth time in the last 10 seasons since joining the Saints in 2006, although New Orleans finished with a 7-9 record and missed the postseason for a second consecutive year.

"I know he feels like he's got more years left in him," Loomis said. "I would say we feel that way as well."
