Redskins sign Pierre Thomas, place Stephen Paea on IR

The Washington Redskins have signed running back Pierre Thomas.

With third-year tailback Chris Thompson battling a torn labrum in his shoulder, the addition of the nine-year veteran Thomas gives the Redskins depth and a reliable receiver out of the backfield.

Thomas spent the first eight seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints, amassing 3,757 yards rushing and 2,608 yards receiving.

After failing to generate much interest as a free agent following the 2014 season, Thomas latched on with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 9. He lasted just one game before being released and failed to register a single touch in his lone appearance.

In a corresponding move, the Redskins placed defensive tackle Stephen Paea on season-ending IR with a toe injury.
