The halftime act for Super Bowl 50 has been revealed.

Coldplay will grace the stage at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7, 2016, the NFL announced.

Previously, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, and Super Bowl XLVIII halftime performer Bruno Mars were rumored to be in the running for the high-profile gig.

The NFL will apparently pull out all the stops to create a show worthy of the historic event, with Super Bowl XLVII halftime performer Beyonce reportedly "in talks to make a guest appearance," according to The Wall Street Journal.

Though Coldplay's often melancholic catalog of hit songs may seem a slightly awkward fit for the big stage of the Super Bowl, there's no denying the band has the necessary star power and plenty of experience playing shows in big stadiums.

The season of the 50th Super Bowl has been all about gold for the NFL, with the league recoloring its logos and even the 50-yard lines at every stadium in honor of the anniversary. For at least a few moments, though, the football world will turn "Yellow."
