The New York Jets signed free-agent punter Steve Weatherford ahead of Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, the team announced.

The move comes after Jets punter Ryan Quigley was added to the injury report Saturday and ruled questionable with a shin issue.

Weatherford spent time with a number of different teams over the first nine seasons of his NFL career, including a two-year stint with the Jets from 2009-10. He played the next four seasons with the New York Giants before being released during the preseason this year.

Weatherford has appeared in 142 regular-season games and holds a career average of 44.5 yards per punt over that span.

Safety Jaiquawn Jarrett was waived to clear space on the active roster in a corresponding move.
