New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells remains in hospital after being diagnosed with a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection in his ankle and is slated to undergo a fifth surgical procedure over the weekend, Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports.

Fells was placed on season-ending injured reserve this week, but football is likely the furthest thing from his mind right now. Not only is Fells' career in jeopardy, MRSA can be life-threatening.

The previous surgeries performed on Fells were aimed at clearing the affected area of infection, but it appears the situation is ongoing.

MRSA infections are difficult to treat because by their very nature they resist many common antibiotics.
