Report: Bruce Arians tells Cardinals 'put your foot on their throat' at halftime
Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians wanted his team to know that anyone easing up in the second half of Sunday's blowout win over the San Francisco 49ers would need to find a new job.
"If you relax, I'll be looking for new people," Arians told his team, according to Paul Calvisi of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM. "Put your foot on their throat."
The Cardinals took a 31-7 lead into the half, after putting up 48 points on the Chicago Bears last week. They've scored the most points in the league by far, putting up 126 points in three weeks of play.
Keeping the Cardinals humble seems to be a running theme for Arians. After last week's win, the head coach reportedly told his team, "You ain't shit."
The message is clear for a franchise that's struggled to change its losing culture. Outside of a miraculous Super Bowl run in 2008, the Cardinals have sputtered consistently, going to the playoffs just four times since 1983.
After a late-season collapse in 2014 that saw the team give away the division to the Seattle Seahawks, it appears Arians is afraid to let his players get ahead of themselves. As last year proved, the team's an injury away from struggling to .500.
