Belichick rips 'sad' reports of Pats' alleged cheating
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is a man of few words, so it's worth listening when he does speak at length.
While talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers' headset issues during Thursday's game, Belichick took umbrage with recent reports that accused the Pats of widespread cheating, burrowing into trash cans in search of game plans, and even stooping as low as serving opponents warm Gatorade.
After dealing with "Deflategate" all offseason, both Sports Illustrated and ESPN published articles this week chronicling the Patriots' alleged offenses.
"I think overall, it's kind of sad, really, to see some stories written that obviously have an agenda to them with misinformation and anonymous type comments," Belichick said on a conference call Friday, as reported by Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. "Writing about warm drinks and trash cans and stuff like that. I think it's just a sad commentary and its gone to a pretty low level. Sunk pretty deep."
Those comments from any other head coach would be a strong statement. Coming from Belichick, it's a booming message to the media and the rest of the league that he's tired of the continuous accusations of cheating.
