Chiefs move Eric Fisher to right tackle; Donald Stephenson to start on left side
The Kansas City Chiefs are shaking up the offensive line ahead of the 2015 season, moving 2013 No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher away from his left tackle spot after a disappointing sophomore year.
Fisher heads into Week 1 as the right tackle, while Donald Stephenson will take over as the starter at left tackle, head coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday.
"Donald has got a ton of reps over there," Reid said, according to B.J. Kissel of the team's official website. "He seems more comfortable over there. Fisher can play everywhere."
The decision may have come a result of Stephenson's strong play, which can only be taken as a positive for the Chiefs' offensive line, but Fisher's inability to hold off the competition adds to the concerns surrounding his early career development.
Fisher started 13 games at right tackle as a rookie before moving to the left side for all 16 games in 2014, struggling with consistency both as a run blocker and pass protector.
While the Chiefs won't give up on the 24-year-old any time soon, and he may eventually prove to be a long-term fit at right tackle, the lack of return from a former top draft selection played a significant role in the offense's lack of consistency up front.
