49ers' Ahmad Brooks charged with sexual battery
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks has been charged with sexual battery in connection with a sexual assault case involving former teammate Ray McDonald, according to multiple reports.
49ers general manager Trent Baalke released a statement saying Brooks is on his way back to California and will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Denver Broncos.
"The organization is aware that a misdemeanor charge has been filed against Ahmad Brooks stemming from a December 2014 matter," Baalke stated. "We take any charge against a member of this organization seriously and are in communication with the NFL."
A civil suit filed against Brooks in May accuses him of groping a woman "in a sexual manner" while she was unconscious, prior to teammate Ray McDonald having sex with her without her consent. The assaults allegedly occurred after she slipped on a pool deck and hit her head.
All of this, the suit alleges, is supported by video surveillance.
McDonald was also indicted by a grand jury on one count of rape in the incident.
