Saints' Brandon Browner outlines 3 core elements to winning a Super Bowl
Brandon Browner was a member of the past two Super Bowl champions, and he shared the core tenets to success Tuesday.
Browner helped form Seattle's vaunted Legion of Boom, but was suspended at the time of the team's Super Bowl victory for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Last season, he started for the New England Patriots, helping steer them past his former team.
Now with the New Orleans Saints, his third organization in as many years, Browner expanded on the components that make up a champion.
"Togetherness. You have to throw away the egos," Browner said to Monday Morning Quarterback's Robert Klemko. "The Seattle team had characters, with your Richard Shermans and whatnot. But those egos and characters have to come together as one on Sunday.
"Smarts. You have to completely do away with dumb penalties and similar things that hurt the team. That starts in camp. You create the atmosphere early and rehearse everything in practice so when game time comes it comes naturally."
Despite warning against penalties, Browner has been known for his physical play at the line of scrimmage, which drew him a number of penalties last season.
The veteran concluded with the most important aspect of winning a title.
"The quarterback. I've been blessed to play with some of the best in the game, and we have that here with Drew Brees."
It'll be an uphill battle for Browner to capture his third consecutive Super Bowl, but his veteran experience will be relied upon by a Saints team in transition.
