Newly signed Giant Brandon Meriweather knows he's one of the NFL's best safeties

It's been five years since Brandon Meriweather was last selected to a Pro Bowl, but the veteran safety insists he's still the same player he was in 2010.

Meriweather was signed by the New York Giants on Sunday after the team lost Landon Collins and Mykkele Thompson to injuries in Friday's 23-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He sees himself not only as one of the best safeties on the Giants' roster, but in the entire NFL.

"I'm excited, man," Meriweather said, according to the team's official website. "Anytime you can come to a great organization, you've always got to be excited and ready to help.

"I'm going to go in and I'm going to put my all into it. I'm going to get with coach every day until I get it the way I knew every other defense."

Asked if he's the same player who was selected to two Pro Bowls, Meriweather replied, "I know I am."

Meriweather was thrown right into the mix Sunday, taking more reps than he anticipated in the Giants' full-pads practice.

"They actually threw me in and I didn't know I was going to get that many reps at all," he said. "I thought I was going to do some running around, but not that.

"It's always good to learn on the fly. It's always good just to learn, just throw them in and let them sink or swim. That's the way you learn."
