Eagles' Mychal Kendricks unsure if he'll be traded, extended by Week 1
The Philadelphia Eagles completely revamped their roster in the offseason, and linebacker Mychal Kendricks is unsure if he'll be with the team entering the 2015 season.
Kendricks was heavily rumored to be on the trade block ahead of this year's NFL Draft but nothing came to fruition.
The Eagles made a number of significant trades during the summer, shipping running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for linebacker Kiko Alonso. Philadelphia also swapped quarterbacks with the St. Louis Rams, dealing Nick Foles for Sam Bradford.
With head coach Chip Kelly remaking the Eagles in his image, Kendricks is unsure whether he'll be with the franchise when opening weekend kicks off.
"I don't know,'' Kendricks told Mark Eckel of NJ.com Tuesday. "I don't know. I think so.''
The 24-year-old pass-rushing specialist recorded 83 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles in 12 games for the Eagles last season. Entering his fourth campaign, he is seeking an extension.
"There's been no talk of an extension,'' Kendricks said. "I can't control whatever happens here. I like Philly. I'd like to finish where I started. I like it out here. But again whatever happens, happens.''
Although Kendricks reiterated his desire to stay a lifelong Eagle, he understood that he could be moved at any time.
"In this league we're all renting space. It's a business. And you have to admire that and respect that," Kendricks said.
"Hypothetically speaking, if I were to get traded the next team must want me. If you can play, you can play, and if you can play they will pay. There's no hard feelings either way.''
With a front seven built around the talents of Alonso, Connor Barwin, Fletcher Cox and Kendricks, the talented linebacker may prove to be indispensable. What's clear is that Kendricks would be an asset to any team looking for a rangy, improving linebacker who can be deployed in coverage just as easily as in blitz packages.
