Redskins to remove thousands of seats from FedEx Field
After missing the playoffs in two consecutive seasons, the Washington Redskins will remove thousands of seats from FedEx Field.
It's the third time in five years that the Redskins have opted to decrease the capacity of its stadium, according to The Washington Post.
Washington fielded an average of less than 80,000 fans per game over the past four seasons, and may be the impetus for the decision.
In a statement issued to season ticket holders, the team said they'd unveil the full plan at a later date.
Redskins president Bruce Allen alluded to improving the fan experience in March.
"Redskins fans deserve a stadium experience worthy of your loyal support," Allen wrote in a letter via The Washington Post. "It’s clear from your feedback that in several areas, we need to do better."
With one playoff appearance in the past seven seasons and a combined 7-25 record over the past two years, a culture of perpetual losing may be the real reason behind the Redskins' decision to retract its seating.
