Seattle Seahawks rush linebacker Bruce Irvin thinks drinking and driving is a laughing matter.
That's what he told the world, at least, when he posted a series of tweets Wednesday about an apparent incident in which he claimed to be arrested for driving under the influence:
Before this hits the media I just wanna apologize to my fans and the @Seahawks organization once again. I made a terrible decision b driving

After I had a few drinks. I will do everything to get ur trust back and will become a better person after this.

As some suspected, Irvin's tweets were part of an ill-advised April Fools' Day joke, which he confirmed half an hour later:
How many of yall thought I was serious ?! Haha April fools!!!

Irvin's stunt was met with widespread criticism, with most pointing out that joking about drinking and driving - especially in a league where DUIs are rampant - is in very poor taste.
Irvin's quip about needing to earn fans' trust back may prove to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
