Seahawks' license for '12th Man' slogan expires in 2016
While the Seattle Seahawks' raucous home crowd will continue to make CenturyLink Field one of the NFL's toughest places to play, some controversy may soon surround the collective name the fans have become associated with.
The team's "12th Man" slogan was officially trademarked by Texas A&M in 1990, and is currently used by the Seahawks on a licensing agreement. As Chris Daniels of KING 5 News reports, that license is set to expire in 2016.
Texas A&M assistant vice president Shane Hinckley has indicated that negotiations on an extension have already begun, however, and that the school would like to continue the agreement.
Though Hinckley says that Texas A&M is focused on protecting the brand rather than the financial return, it would be no surprise to see a significant change to the current $5,000-a-year price tag, given the Seahawks' recent success with the slogan.
