Report: Dolphins to offer Joe Philbin contract extension
Andrew Weber / US PRESSWIRE
The Miami Dolphins will offer head coach Joe Philbin a contract extension, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.
Philbin is heading into the final year of a four-year contract and an extension would avoid a lame duck season in 2015.
Still, an extension wouldn't necessarily ensure Philbin's long-term employment with the franchise. In three seasons he's never led the team to more than eight wins, and the Dolphins haven't qualified for the playoffs in his tenure.
The 2015 campaign would still likely be a make-or-break year for Philbin.
This news comes at a time when the Dolphins just underwent a front office shakeup.
Miami recently brought in Mike Tannebaum to be the executive vice president of football operations.
