Cowboys end regular season with convincing win over Redskins

The Dallas Cowboys ended their regular season on a winning note Sunday, defeating the Washington Redskins 44-17 to improve to 12-4.

The Redskins, meanwhile, finish their season at the bottom of the NFC East with a 4-12 record. 

Here's what you need to know:

  • Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray set a franchise record for most rushing yards in a season, surpassing Emmitt Smith's mark of 1,773. He finished the game with 100 yards on 20 carries. 
  • Teammate Dez Bryant also had a memorable afternoon, breaking Terrell Owens' franchise record for the most touchdown receptions in a season with his 16th of the year. 
  • Dallas outgained Washington 225-115 in the first half, with Murray and Bryant accounting for 171 yards.
  • Cowboys rookie linebacker Anthony Hitchens suffered an apparent right ankle injury in the second quarter and was sidelined for the remainder of the game.
  • Dallas also lost defensive tackle Henry Melton to a knee injury.
  • Redskins left tackle Trent Williams left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.
  • Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo completed 22-of-34 passes for 299 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. 
  • Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III finished 27-of-41 for 336 yards with one touchdown and a pair of interceptions.
