The Texas Rangers are taking precautions to ensure Russell Wilson, the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, stays in their farm system with the Rule 5 draft looming.

The club bumped Wilson, selected by the Rangers in last year's Rule 5 draft, up to Triple-A, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. The move would force another team to pay $50,000 for his rights and then keep Wilson on its big-league roster for an entire season. The chances of Wilson leaving his football job for the baseball diamond are slim to none, so it would be an incredible waste of resources for a major league team to snatch him up.

Wilson played collegiate baseball at NC State from 2008 to 2010, and visited the Rangers' spring training facility in Arizona to practice and give a motivational speech to the players last winter.
