Report: Tony Romo has 2 small fractures in his back
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo suffered two fractured transverse process (vertebrae) in his back during Monday's loss to the Washington Redskins, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
In spite of the injury, Romo may suit up for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. If he is unable to play, backup quarterback Brandon Weeden will start for the Cowboys.
Romo was hurt during the third quarter Monday, after Redskins linebacker Keenan Robinson inadvertently hit him with his knee during a sack.
The injury isn't thought to be related to the disc issues in his back Romo suffered from last season, which he had surgery for in December. His season is not thought to be in jeopardy.
Archer writes:
The transverse process is a small bone that sticks out from either side of the vertebrae. Romo has been receiving multiple hours of treatment all week at the Cowboys' facility and at home.
Romo didn't play practice all week and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday.
