Minnesota will host the 2018 Super Bowl, the league announced after voting concluded Tuesday.

The owners selected Minnesota over New Orleans and Indianapolis, in large part due to its new $1 billion stadium scheduled to open in 2016. It marks the second time Minneapolis will host the game, with the first coming back in 1992 when Washington beat Buffalo in Super Bowl XXVI.

Another factor working in Minnesota's favor was its ability to raise almost $500 million in public money for its new stadium, in addition to financing several upgrades in the city's downtown in advance of the game.

It's the second time the big game will return to a cold-weather city - Detroit hosted two Super Bowls - although the Vikings' new stadium will have a dome.

Next year's game will be in Arizona, followed by San Francisco in 2016 and Houston in 2017.
