1969 - Leonard Tose buys the Philadelphia Eagles
On this day 45 years ago the Eagles were sold to Leonard Tose for $16,155,000. That works out to be the equivalent of more than $100 million today.
The Eagles made four-straight playoff appearances under Tose from 1978-1981 and even reached the Super Bowl in 1980. They never won the big game, however, and Tose was eventually forced to sell the team in 1985 for a reported $65 million. Not a bad profit.
The team is now owned by Jeffrey Lurie who took over in 1994. According to a 2011 estimate by Forbes, the Eagles are now worth more than a $1 billion.
