The Tennessee Titans began clearing cap space Wednesday, possibly freeing up money to spend on the open market.

The Titans still had about $8 million in cap space after signing Dexter McCluster on Tuesday, but are now clear of Stewart's $6.4 million 2014 salary.
Stewart, 31, is in the twilight of his career, but should garner some interest on the free-agent market after many high-profile tackles signed big deals Tuesday.
*Update*
The real reason behind Stewart's release has been revealed:
#Titans release nine-year veteran offensive tackle David Stewart (failed physical).
