Suh, Stafford, Johnson make up 39 percent of Lions' cap space
The Detroit Lions have more cap space committed to their top three players than any other NFL team, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, quarterback Matthew Stafford, and wide receiver Calvin Johnson count for $51.3 million (roughly 39 percent) of the Lions' $133 million cap allotment -- the highest of all 32 NFL teams.
Interestingly, the Free Press analysis found that none of the teams in the top 10 made playoff appearances last season.
The Dallas Cowboys, who rank second, have $49,9993,750 committed to their top three players (quarterback Tony Romo, $21.773 million; defensive end Demarcus Ware, $16,003,750; and cornerback Brandon Carr, $12.217 million).
Rounding out the top three are the Chicago Bears, who have committed $49,983,333 to their top three players (quarterback Jay Cutler, $22.5 million; defensive end Julius Peppers, $18,183,333; and wide receiver Brandon Marshall, $9.3 million).
The San Francisco 49ers ($22,969,713 committed to top three players), Indianapolis Colts ($20,946,122), and Oakland Raiders ($18,675,750) make up the bottom three.
