Chargers fire OC Greg Roman
The Los Angeles Chargers fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman, the team announced Tuesday.
Roman, 53, had been the Chargers' offensive coordinator since Jim Harbaugh was hired as head coach in 2024. He previously worked under Harbaugh at Stanford and with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14.
The move comes two days after Los Angeles' 16-3 wild-card loss to the New England Patriots. The Chargers gained 207 yards of offense, 45 of them on their final drive when the game was out of reach.
Quarterback Justin Herbert was swarmed by the Patriots' defense all game, getting sacked six times while throwing for 155 yards with one turnover. The 27-year-old signal-caller faced pressure on 36.4% of his dropbacks, completing three of his eight attempts under duress for 21 yards, according to Next Gen Stats.
During Roman's two-year tenure, the Chargers' offense ranked 17th in EPA/play and 22nd in success rate, according to Ben Baldwin's database.
Offensive line coach Mike Devlin, who joined Harbaugh's staff at the same time as Roman, was also fired.
Los Angeles dealt with significant injuries across its offensive line this year. Rashawn Slater, who signed a four-year, $114-million extension in July, didn't play a snap in 2025 after tearing a patellar tendon at training camp. Joe Alt played six games and underwent season-ending ankle surgery in November. The unit as a whole struggled all season, allowing the second-highest pressure rate in the league (42.5%).
The Chargers' loss Sunday night marked their fourth consecutive postseason defeat. The franchise has not won a playoff game since 2018.
