Chargers to sit Herbert for pivotal game vs. Broncos
Los Angeles Chargers star quarterback Justin Herbert won't start in next Sunday's regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos, head coach Jim Harbaugh announced Monday, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
The Chargers have already secured a wild-card spot, though they can be seeded anywhere from fifth to seventh. Meanwhile, the Broncos will clinch the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage with a win Sunday.
Herbert suffered a fracture in his left hand in November, but the injury hasn't caused him to miss any games.
Trey Lance is expected to start in Herbert's place.
The Broncos locked up the AFC West crown after the Chargers fell to the Houston Texans last Saturday. Denver enters the final week tied with the New England Patriots at 13-3 but holds the tiebreaker.
The Chargers are 11-5 this season and headed to their second straight postseason under Harbaugh.
