Person taken into custody in connection with shooting of Jets' Boyd

NEW YORK (AP) — A person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting of New York Jets' player Kris Boyd, police said Monday.

A New York Police Department spokesperson did not say what role, if any, the person is believed to have had in the shooting, and said no other information was available. Charges have not been filed.

Boyd, a cornerback, was shot in the abdomen just after 2 a.m. on Nov. 16 in midtown Manhattan. The shooter fled the scene. It was not clear what happened before the shooting.

Boyd was hospitalized after the shooting but a few weeks later visited the Jets’ facility, surprising teammates and attending a special team meeting.

The Jets signed Boyd, 29, this year. He was expected to play a key role in a revamped special teams unit but was injured during a practice this summer and has not yet played for New York.

The Texas native played his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He later signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season.
