Report: Hunter to remain 2-way player in 2026 despite knee injury
The Jacksonville Jaguars plan to continue utilizing Travis Hunter on both sides of the field in 2026 despite him suffering a season-ending knee injury in late October, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Jacksonville is preparing to make Hunter a full-time wide receiver and a matchup cornerback next season, similar to how he was deployed this year before landing on injured reserve, Rapoport adds.
"All of those things are very premature," Coen said this week when asked if the No. 2 overall pick will play both ways next season.
"Like every player, he'll be evaluated at the end of the season and we'll give him the things he did (best) and the things to improve on. Right now, our focus is on Chargers."
Hunter suffered a torn LCL in a non-contact incident at practice on Oct. 30. The Jaguars were planning on ramping up Hunter's workload, and the team was prepared to give him more playing time, according to Rapoport.
The 22-year-old logged 323 snaps on offense and 158 defensive snaps in seven contests this year. He was coming off his best game of the 2025 campaign before the knee injury, totaling eight catches on 14 targets for 101 yards and a score versus the Los Angeles Rams.
Jacksonville traded multiple draft picks to move up three spots in the 2025 draft to select Hunter, including its 2026 first-round selection.
The Jaguars are 5-4 heading into Week 11 and will face off against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
