Daniels avoids IR, will be re-evaluated after bye week
The Washington Commanders aren't placing Jayden Daniels on injured reserve after the quarterback received positive updates following an MRI and medical opinions on his dislocated elbow, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Daniels' injury isn't considered as serious as initially anticipated, with tests revealing no ligament damage, per Rapoport.
Head coach Dan Quinn announced Friday that Daniels won't need surgery and will be re-evaluated after the team's bye week later in November.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury after being tackled in the fourth quarter against the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday. Washington lost the game 38-14.
Injuries have already plagued Daniels' 2025 campaign. He missed one contest due to a hamstring issue earlier in the year, before a hamstring strain sidelined him for another two contests.
The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year has thrown for 1,184 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions with a 62.5% completion rate this season. Daniels also ranks second on the Commanders with 262 rushing yards to go along with two scores.
Marcus Mariota will continue to start under center in Daniels' absence. The veteran passer boasts a 1-2 record in three starts this season, having thrown for four touchdowns and four interceptions.
