Rams' McVay: Stafford 'felt really good' after latest throwing workout
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay provided a positive update about Matthew Stafford, saying the veteran quarterback didn't have any throwing limitations during a workout Saturday morning.
"It was awesome. He looked good. He threw the ball really well," McVay told reporters, including Ira Gorawara of the Los Angeles Times. "There was no limitations in terms of the types of throws. Deep, intermediate, short. ... He felt really good."
McVay added that Stafford threw more than 60 passes during his workout.
The two-time Pro Bowl passer is dealing with an aggravated disk in his back, which has kept him out of team drills since the start of training camp. The Rams remain optimistic about his Week 1 availability.
Stafford is scheduled to resume individual drills next week, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
"We're looking forward to progressing him back into practice on Monday," said McVay, who added that he didn't know whether the veteran QB is still dealing with pain in his back.
The 37-year-old is under contract for two more years after signing a restructured extension worth $84 million this offseason. Stafford has averaged 3,675 yards and 24 touchdowns per season since joining Los Angeles in 2021. He led the team to a Super Bowl title in his first year in town.
