Report: Vikings, Darnold haven't discussed long-term deal
Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings have not had talks about a long-term contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Darnold has filled in admirably under center for the Vikings since the franchise lost veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency last offseason. However, Darnold is slated to be a free agent after the 2024 season.
The 27-year-old has the Vikings entering Sunday's matchup against Cousins' Atlanta Falcons with a 10-2 record. He has already set new career highs in touchdown passes (23) and passer rating (102.5) while throwing 10 picks.
Vikings' rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy will factor into Minnesota's quarterback equation for 2025. The No. 10 overall pick had his rookie campaign wiped out after tearing his meniscus before the season.
