The New Orleans Saints will start Trevor Siemian at quarterback against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, head coach Sean Payton announced Friday, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

The move comes just days after New Orleans saw starter Jameis Winston suffer a season-ending knee injury in the second quarter of last week's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Siemian threw for 159 yards and one touchdown in relief.

Siemian, 29, last started a game in 2019 for the New York Jets and has logged 25 starts throughout his career.

The 2015 seventh-rounder began his career with the Denver Broncos, posting a 13-11 record as a starter.

Payton added that Taysom Hill, who has been inactive since Week 5 due to a concussion, will also play against the Falcons.

The 5-2 Saints enter Week 9 on a three-game winning streak.
