The Miami Dolphins haven't yet released linebacker Kyle Van Noy as they try to trade him first, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.

Miami informed Van Noy of his release Tuesday, but the team never finalized the move.

Van Noy contributed 69 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and six pass breakups during the 2020 season, his first with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins signed the linebacker to a four-year, $51-million contract last offseason. His $12.5-million salary for 2021 becomes guaranteed on March 19, which likely will be the deadline for a possible trade.

Miami would save $9.8 million against the cap by cutting Van Noy, according to OverTheCap.
