Report: Bills looking to extend Allen in offseason
The Buffalo Bills are seeking to reward Josh Allen after a breakout 2020 season.
Buffalo is expected to approach Allen with hopes of working out a lucrative contract extension in the offseason, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
An extension could make Allen the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, but the league's 2021 salary cap will play a determining role, Rapoport adds.
Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller Patrick Mahomes is currently the league's highest-paid quarterback, averaging $45 million per year, according to Spotrac. Behind Mahomes are Deshaun Watson ($39 million per year) and Russell Wilson ($35 million).
Allen is coming off his best season as a pro, setting career highs in completion percentage (69.2%), passing yards (4,544), and touchdown passes (37). His play has been the driving force behind the Bills' resurgence; the franchise finished 13-3 en route to its first division title since 1995.
A top-10 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen is in the third year of his rookie contract. He'll be eligible for an extension after the season concludes.
