Report: MetLife turf approved again in wake of 49ers' concerns

The NFL and the NFL Players Association again approved the playing surface at MetLife Stadium on Wednesday after the San Francisco 49ers questioned its safety, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Representatives from MetLife Stadium, the New York Giants, New York Jets, and FieldTurf, plus an independent inspector, were also present at the review.

The 49ers voiced concerns about the field after losing a number of starters to significant knee or ankle injuries against the Jets in Week 2. San Francisco will play at MetLife Stadium again in Week 3 versus the Giants.

MetLife Stadium had new turf inserted in the offseason. The field has undergone about 20 inspections since the installation was completed in June, according to the New York Daily News' Pat Leonard.

The Jets and Giants both scrimmaged on the turf prior to the season. The Pittsburgh Steelers played on it against the Giants in Week 1 before the 49ers arrived to face the Jets.

NFL teams have their fields certified within 72 hours of any game that takes place on it.
