Report: Texans, 3 others interested in trading for David Johnson
The Houston Texans are one of four teams interested in a possible trade for Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson, sources told Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.
Johnson is coming off the least productive campaign of his career, in which he rushed for 345 yards and two touchdowns. He lost his featured role to Kenyan Drake, who was acquired before the trade deadline.
Early in his career, Johnson was hailed as one of the top dual-threat running backs in the league. He had 879 receiving yards in 2016 to go with 1,239 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. He hasn't averaged better than 3.7 yards per carry since that banner year.
The Texans are looking to fill a void in the backfield, as both Carlos Hyde and Lamar Miller are free agents.
Johnson is due a base salary of $10.2 million in 2020 and the Cardinals would incur a cap hit north of $16 million if they cut him, according to OverTheCap. A trade would leave Arizona with a cap hit of $6 million.
