Vernon Davis on 'sweet potato yams' meme: 'I was just excited about yams'

Washington Redskins tight end Vernon Davis is still crazy about "sweet potato yams."

It was four years ago that Davis, then a member of the San Francisco 49ers, first professed his love for the root vegetable during a Thanksgiving Day game against the Seattle Seahawks. The video became an instant meme.

Davis told The Undefeated's Martenzie Johnson he grew up on yams and eats them as often as he can, though he prefers to have them prepared by his grandmother, aunt, or chain restaurants.

"Anything yams, I'll eat it," he said. "Yam oatmeal. Yam cereal. You name it. Yam pudding. Yam stew. I'm all about it."

As for the meme, Davis said his humorous reaction was genuine: "I was just excited about yams."
