After some confusion over his ability to talk to teams not named the New Orleans Saints, quarterback Drew Brees will in fact be able to negotiate with other clubs Monday if he can't reach a deal with his current team beforehand.

A report Thursday suggested Brees would not be allowed to talk to other teams when the negotiation period opens Monday, March 12. However, NFL and NFLPA officials confirmed to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that the report was inaccurate.

Brees, head coach Sean Payton, and Saints officials have publicly expressed confidence in agreeing on a new deal for the 39-year-old quarterback, who's spent the last 12 years in New Orleans.

Report: Saints GM doesn't anticipate any problems re-signing Brees

It remains highly likely that Brees will re-sign with the Saints after a season in which the team posted its best record since 2013, followed by a solid playoff run. Brees has taken his time agreeing to a new deal with the Saints in the past - he signed an extension in 2016 on the last day of a self-imposed deadline.
