The Minnesota Vikings are set to hire in-demand Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo as their new offensive coordinator, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.

DeFilippo will replace Pat Shurmur, who left to take the New York Giants' head coaching position.

The 39-year-old's star has risen immensely after he helped transform Carson Wentz into an MVP candidate this season. He even interviewed for the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals head coaching vacancies before ultimately losing out to Matt Nagy and Steve Wilks, respectively.

DeFilippo inherits an offense with talent all over the field, but not under center. Case Keenum, Sam Bradford, and Teddy Bridgewater are all out of contract this offseason, though it's expected at least one will be re-signed by Minnesota.

Regardless, DeFilippo takes over a unit that finished 10th in scoring in 2017 and will have a healthy Dalvin Cook returning in 2018, so it's likely he'll be among the hottest head coaching names in a year's time if he can keep the offense rolling.
