The New York Giants cleaned house Monday, and it seems the catalyst for the seismic decision to fire both Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese was quarterback Eli Manning's benching.

Giants owner John Mara was reportedly "furious" with the damage his team's image took following the decision to sit Manning, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB. Mara's anger over the course of the last week was evident to those throughout the organization, according to Breer.

Mara previously called the backlash to the club's decision to bench Manning "understandable," as he explained his discussions with Reese last week, but Monday's events beg the question of how favorable Mara viewed sitting his franchise player for the entirety of Sunday's game.
