Washington Redskins running back Rob Kelley "has to make major strides" in his recovery from a sprained ankle in order to play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Jay Gruden told reporters Wednesday, including ESPN's John Keim.
Kelley started three of the four games he's played in this season. It seemed as though the Week 5 bye came at the right time, but the sophomore has yet to return to full health.
Rookie Samaje Perine started in the only game Kelley has missed and would be in line for the start if Kelley is again absent.
