Titans' Corey Davis: Says he could play in game if necessary

Davis (ankle) said he could play a game right now if the Titans had one, but he's still on board with the team's decision to ease him into practice, ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky reports.

Analysis:

Davis was limited at rookie minicamp in mid-May and likely will continue as a partial participant throughout OTAs. He seems to have recovered from January surgery, but the Titans have little incentive to rush the No. 5 overall draft pick into action, presumably targeting June minicamp or training camp for his debut as a full practice participant. Davis may have to battle sophomore Tajae Sharpe for a starting job, but Sharpe's draft pedigree (fifth round) and poor rookie-season efficiency (6.3 yards per target) tilt the scale in Davis' favor. It does seem likely targets and touches will be spread around in Tennessee, as the team also selected wideout Taywan Taylor and tight end Jonnu Smith in the third round of the draft, bolstering an offense that already featured Sharpe, Rishard Matthews, Delanie Walker, DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry. He'll have to earn his looks early in the season, but Davis does eventually figure to usurp Matthews and Walker for the right to serve as Marcus Mariota's favorite target.
