Texans' Quessenberry returns to practice for 1st time since cancer diagnosis

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Texans offensive lineman David Quessenberry returned to practice for the first time since being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's T lymphoblastic lymphoma in June 2014.

Quessenberry is still working his way into peak shape, but has progressed well after completing chemotherapy treatment in April.

"When I finished my intensive treatment I felt like the furthest thing from a football player - no hair, skinny - but your body is an amazing thing," Quessenberry said to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "We just took it slowly. We just did one workout at a time, one treatment at a time and eventually here we are."

Quessenberry said he was lauded by Texans head coach Bill O'Brien for his resiliency.

"In the team meeting he called me out and he showed the team the video of me ringing the bell," Quessenberry said. "He has had my back through this whole thing. We've gotten close. He has had a lot of wisdom on the way to approach things when it's your body and you're going through your own fights."

Quessenberry remains on the Texans' non-football injury list.
