Seahawks' Richard Sherman: Confirmed to be subject of trade talks
Seahawks general manager John Schneider confirmed that the team has discussed trading Sherman (knee), ESPN.com's Sheil Kapadia reports. "What you've seen lately in the news is real," Schneider said on the "Brock and Salk" show on 710 ESPN Seattle. "That's on both sides. It's just open communication. He knows what's going on. We know what's going on."
Analysis:
Schneider said his star cornerback knows about the trade discussions, which began in February at the scouting combine in Indianapolis. Sherman continued to play at a high level while battling through an MCL injury during the second half of last season, but a pair of heated sideline arguments with coaches -- in addition to his hefty contract -- may have planted the seed for Seattle to explore a trade. The team is probably demanding at least one early-round pick and/or significant player compensation, as Sherman's fully-guaranteed 2017 base salary of $11.431 million is actually quite reasonable for a player of his caliber. Trading away the 29-year-old cornerback would pave the way for Seattle to upgrade its beleaguered offensive line, but head coach Pete Carroll suggested it's still a long shot, which makes sense when considering that Seattle's cornerback group is otherwise pedestrian.
