Cardinals grab WR Chad Williams in 3rd round
Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports
The Arizona Cardinals have selected wide receiver Chad Williams out of Grambling State in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 98th overall.
Williams, an incredibly productive receiver over his last two seasons in college, adds another playmaker to the Cardinals' passing game.
If he makes the most of his physical gifts and proves he's past previous off-field issues, he should have every opportunity to emerge as a long-term piece alongside John Brown as Larry Fitzgerald approaches his eventual retirement.
Chad Williams Bio
Position: WR
School: Grambling State
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-1
Weight: 204 lbs.
Strengths
- Aggressive, active hands off the line and in and out of his breaks.
- Impressive when made to high-point a pass. Great leaping ability for his size.
- Plays with physicality. Able to fight through tackles to create plays after the catch.
- Straight-line speed isn't elite, but Williams possesses a solid extra gear to separate downfield.
Weaknesses
- Character concerns. Was suspended for 2016 season opener following a May arrest on weapon and drug charges.
- Needs to develop as a route-runner.
- Agility is below average. Ability to separate may suffer at NFL level.
